Birthday data: what to verify before sending greetings
A birthday card depends on accurate information and an appropriate audience.

Use information clients provided
Do not infer birthdays from unrelated dates or assume a placeholder is real. If your records contain an anniversary or account creation date, keep it distinct from the person’s birthday. A warm message becomes uncomfortable when it confidently celebrates the wrong occasion.
Check month and day interpretation
Dates copied across spreadsheets can be ambiguous. Review a few records where the day is greater than twelve and compare them with the source. This makes it easier to spot a month/day swap before it spreads through the list. Use the product’s supported fields rather than embedding dates in notes.
Respect greeting preferences
A known birthday does not mean every person wants a birthday email. Review applicable preferences and Do Not Email status before configuring the audience. After the first matching date, inspect the Sending Log to understand the outcome. Keep birthday records current when clients correct them, and avoid sending an extra greeting merely to compensate for uncertainty.
